How Christina Combined AI with Humanities at Emory
Christine Chance is a recent graduate of Emory University
Christina Chance recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science with a Physics Minor, from Emory University.
Christina has always been interested in Math. When time came for college, she wanted to go where STEM and Humanities came together.
At Emory, while pursuing research in AI, Christina found speech recognition did not work for people with accents. She knew this to be true from personal experience, because her family is from Jamaica.
She discovered that was a shortage of Speech Recognition data for people with different accents and dialects. She worked with English, Neuroscience, Math and CS departments to create a methodology to collect data for various dialects.
Christina joins the Doctoral Program at UCLA to continue speech recognition and NLP work.
